Melanie Jill Konynenberg
BMus, MC counselling psychology
Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC #19883)
Penticton and Summerland BC, as well as virtual clinical counselling services in British Columbia
EMDR and EFT
I completed a Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance from the University of Alberta and a Master’s degree in counselling psychology from Athabasca University. I offer a blend of compassion, creativity, and life-experience to my work as a registered clinical counsellor.
I have had the privilege of supporting
children, youth, and adults in both community and
private practice clinical counselling settings.
I have experience working as a behavior interventionist in the autism intervention program at OSNS in Penticton, as well as teaching music in schools and providing private and group lessons in voice, piano, and musical theatre
for many years.
I have been a mom for 21 years and married for 24 years, which gives me a deep understanding of the complexities of family life and the challenges we face at different stages. Having navigated life’s ups and downs with resilience and hope, I strive to create a safe, supportive space where clients can explore their own experiences and uncover their strengths.
I find inspiration in nature, music, and the companionship of dogs and other furry creatures—sources of joy and grounding that I bring into my practice.
Therapy Approach
I work in collaboration with clients to uncover strengths, abilities, resources, and meaning. I believe the experiencing of fulfillment and the discovery of purpose and hope can lead to increased wellness.
I prioritize the creation of a safe, warm, and empathic therapeutic relationship in which the client
is placed as the expert.
I work with EMDR, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and emotionally focused therapy. I have completed Gottman levels 1 and 2 couple's counselling and emotion-focused family therapy core 1 and 2 trainings.
I completed emotionally focused individual therapy (EFIT) for transforming trauma training and the EFIT level 1 certificate course. I have completed trauma-focused Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (TF-ACT) training and Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) skills training.
I am an Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) trained therapist, with additional training in recent events trauma recovery and complex trauma.
